Message from Ivy Wales, the organiser of the Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts Dance Championship, dated 28th March 2020.
It is with great sadness and regrets that I am no longer able to lead the WFPA Dance Championship due to ill health. My small committee team also decided to step down at the same time.
I would like to thank everyone for their help and support these last few years. It is very much appreciated.
Congratulations to all our Performers and Winners who entered our very successful 2016 Dance Championship. The Performers who achieved a first place are as follows:

TROPHIES
Performance Certificates will be awarded to all Performers completing their dance and all participants will receive an Adjudicator’s Comments Sheet. Trophies will be presented only to those winners who achieve “Commended”, “Distinction” or “Outstanding” grades.
Trophies are held for one year only. Holders are reminded that all trophies should be returned NO LATER THAN 1 October 2013 to the Trophy Secretary, Mrs Margaret Smith, 12A Wells House, Brodrick Drive, Wells Road, Ilkley, LS29 9SP (telephone: 01943 601336)
Winners wishing to record their success should have the trophy engraved at their own expense, before return.

SYSTEM OF GRADING PERFORMANCES
Certificates will be issued for all performances in the top three categories.
90+ | OUTSTANDING | Exceptional performance, both technically and artistically |
87-89 | DISTINCTION | Excellent performance technically and artistically |
84-86 | COMMENDED | Convincing performance technically and artistically |
81-83 | MERIT | Capable performance showing some artistic appreciation and/or technical ability. |
78-80 | MODERATE | Performance showing development of technique and/or communication. |
75-77 | FAIR | Performance limited in its communication. |
SAFETY OF PERFORMERS
It is necessary for teachers and parents to be aware of their responsibilities in entering any performers with limited physical capabilities or special needs, bearing in mind the limitations imposed by the stage and surrounding environment. It is also necessary for the teacher or parent to pass on to the Adjudicator, via the organiser, any such information that would impact on the Adjudicator’s work.
THE USE OF RECORDED MUSIC
This Festival is affiliated to the British and International Federation of Festivals and participates in its Group Licence, to cover payment of fees for the use of recorded music at its events. Teachers using tapes created from commercial recordings are advised that they should seek permission to re-record, from the record companies concerned, as the Wharfedale Festival cannot take responsibility for this arrangement.
All performances using music from shows in current production are subject to copyright laws.
Where movement or costume are included in a performance, copyright permission is required and the Wharfedale Festival Committee accepts these...

Rules for MISS DANCE OF GREAT BRITAIN.
ENTRY FEE: £9.00
This is a National Competition in Theatre Dance. The Grand Final is provisionally arranged to be held in June 2019. The Venue.... Opera House, Blackpool.
1. Competitors must be 16 years of age by 31st May 2019.
2. Competitors will be required to give a completed theatrical dance performance which may include Modern Dance, Tap, Gymnastic Dance, Dialogue, Song, Instrumentation or Comedy, (Classical Ballet, Character, Greek, National are not permitted). Due to health and safety only small properties that can be carried by one person will be permitted.
