Remote Assistance

If you are after Remote Assistance and we have agreed to this, we will probably connect via Teamviewer to your desktop. Please download this Quick Connect program in readiness. We will require the ID and password once this is run.

If we require FTP access, please arrange for us to receive temporary FTP access to your server and let us know the details, URL, username and password. Thank you.

If we are de-bugging something like Joomla or phpList please ensure we have the access details, url, username and password.

monitorGot a blank monitor/display/screen?

This could be caused by several issues, a loose cable, a faulty pc to monitor cable, faulty motherboard/connection in your PC or a faulty monitor.

We can check the cable as well as try a second monitor for you.

We can supply a replacement cable  for about £5.

If your monitor is faulty and you wish to obtain your own replacement, we can arrange the loan of a 2nd hand monitor to tide you over.

If you wish us to obtain you a new monitor just ask, there are...

joomla logo blackWhen trying to add a Joomla! Component that is larger than 2Mb in size, and you are unable to change your MAX_FILE_SIZE setting in either php.ini file or your server PHP Configuration settings, there is still a way to upload these very large components.

First download the component to your computer, un-zip it to a folder using a directory name that makes sense to you, then upload that folder and all its contents to your Joomla! website's tmp directory.

Once complete, go to your Extension...

joomla logo blackTo add an Anchor in Joomla in an article is quite simple, just add

<a href="/dr/my-anchor"></a>

to your article code, then link to it from elsewhere on your article

<a href="#my-anchor">Link test</a>

However, if you want to use it to point to a specific point in an article from a MENU Item, this is not easily possible.

You would think that by changing the menu type to external link and including the #my-anchor at the end of the article link it...

There is a spoofed email going the rounds at the moment, asking fora payment date to be sent to Sue Mockridge, who seems to be the Accounts Administrator at BroakOak Toiletries, for the attached invoice.

There is no such person at BroakOak, their front page currently states this clearly. Also, the address that the spoofed email is being sent from is NOT broadoak's, but it was broad-oak... It's now arriving as if from a lot of various different email addresses

The worse...

Why would you need to disable your mouse's right click function?

Two reasons come to mind, firstly to stop your children accessing the menus and doing something drastic to your computer! Secondly, if like me you play online Flash games where if you accidently click the right mouse button a menu comes up and blocks the game play, though it continues regardless.

The simplest Right Click disabler I've found is MurGee Mouse Disabler. Just download, run it and tick the right click box and any...

As you may already know, Microsoft have announced the end of support, security updates, etc for Windows XP SP3. After this date, 8th April 2014 XP will be considered vulnerable to hacker attacks and there will be no fixes made available by Microsoft. I do recommend that you upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8 by this time.

There is a checker available to see if your machine will work with Windows 7 and also one for Windows 8. If your machine will, and you wish to upgrade to either operating...

You run your email program, Outlook Express, Outlook and Thunderbird etc and download your new emails. Without clicking on the unread emails, how can you tell if they are genuine or spam or worse still, infected?

You could try to work out from the title or sender details if they are genuine, but if you've got the Preview Frame enabled, you've just told the spammer that your email address is valid, or you've just infected your machine.

The best way is to run a previewer type program...

Have you forgotten that password, and the email address that you registered with, or worst still, deleted the email due to annoying spam?

Then you need a Password Manager! One I've been using for the last few years is RoboForm, there is a free version available that allows you to store up to 10 logins, but you'll soon pass that figure. Then the cost rises to $30 for a single computer or an annual $20 for multiple computers.

An alternative I've recently found out about is KeePass which is a...
