Welcome to the 102nd Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts. We hope you will enjoy all we have to offer in what we believe to be a breathtakingly exciting programme. Festival 2008 offers you a glittering showcase of talent in Speech & Drama, Music and Poetry Writing. The Festival operates a policy of total equality and equal opportunity.
One important and exciting innovation this year is the change of venue from the Kings Hall to Craiglands. This is due to the closure of the Winter Garden for repairs to the lantern roof. We are hugely indebted to the General Manager of Craiglands, Mr Sean Battles, for allowing us to stage our large-scale events in the hotel ballroom.
This year the Celebration Concert will be held on Wednesday 21st May at 7.00 pm in Christchurch. We hope that all performers who are invited to take part will be able to do so, as we hope to organise an even more glittering event than last year. We are very proud of all our competitors.

Welcome to the Wharfedale Festival Syllabus for 2008.
We are proud to be celebrating our hundred and second Festival in May 2008, and I hope you will agree that although our Festival is old in years, it is young in imagination and innovation as it continues to develop and introduce exciting new classes and put new spin on old ones.
We extend our thanks once again to the Ilkley Bandstand 2000 Trust for offering concert engagements to winning brass and concert bands and also to the Guiseley Music Centre for their generous provision of a year’s free admission to any ensemble of the winner’s choice. Thanks also to the Rotary Club of Ilkley for the generous provision of the Frank Newbould Rotary Award to be assigned to the Adult Choir classes as an overall special prize, new this year.

Due to renovation work due to be held at the Kings Hall, our usual venue for Choirs, over Festival Week, the Craiglands Hotel has very kindly allowed us to use their ballroom for Band night, School Choirs Workshop, School Choirs and Adult Choirs classes on 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th May.
The Festival is very grateful to the management of Criaglands for their generous offer and co-operation. |
