Welcome
Following on from our August 2005 meeting where we were entertained and educated by Tim from DEFRA on the why's about changes to pesticides, Weedol is now removed from sale as is Pathclear.

There are however replacements available, Weedol has been replaced by Weedol 2 and Pathclear by Pathclear Ultra though at the moment, we have substitued a Doff product as that appears to be better value.

Weedol 2 is now in stock, though it is 60p a sachet dearer than the older, superseded Weedol original.

Written by The Chairman
In April 2010, Roelof and Cheryl Quintus became the new owners of award-winning BOURTON HOUSE GARDEN.  They are delighted to announce that they will once again be opening the garden to the public from 2nd June.  They will continue to develop the garden with the active assistance of Head Gardener Paul Nicholls, who has for many years been instrumental in creating the wonderful garden that can be seen today.

This year's Mystery Association Fuchsia has now arrived and most of the cuttings were sold at the April Meeting, some 5 or 6 were left and these were sold at the sheds.

Association Fuchsia
Written by The Chairman
Each year, the Association obtains a number of Fuchsia cuttings, usually from a local nursery, making these available from the April Monthly Meeting to members to be grown on for a little competition and a bit of a fun display at the September Meeting.

The fuchsia chosen by the judges at this meeting, usually the President and Chairman of the Association, receives the Association Fuchsia Trophy for the year. This Trophy is a beautiful 3D image of a past Association Fuchsia, made by past Show Secretary and ex-Chairman, Bob Turner.

Our late President (2002-2010), Mr E E Jordan .....

Local Radio Player
Written by The Chairman
As you may have noticed, there is a little music player on the left hand menu, (Currently on our Get In Touch Page) which is linked to our local Radio Station, Fresh Radio, based in Skipton.

This is mainly for my own reference, but the player does seem to need to autoplay this for it to work, so my apologies for this during the testing phase, I do hope it is possible to stop it autoplaying but in the meantime, please click the square box next to the right hand facing arrow on the actual player to stop it.

Spent Hops anyone?
Written by The Chairman
Ilkley Brewery Logo © Ilkley Brewery Company We have received an offer from Stewart at the Ilkley Brewery Company who is offering any interested gardener in the Ilkley area a supply of Spent Hops from the brewery for free. All that needs doing is the hops need to be collected from the brewery and they are ideal for mulching.

Please contact Stewart at the Brewery to arrange to collect them on 07721 880108 or 01943 604604. The brew takes place each Tuesday, so the hops are ready for collection on a Wednesday, but please do ring before going as they may be out on deliveries.

Humax Bought Out!
Written by The Chairman

Have just received the news, from a reliable source, that the Humax Compost company has been bought out by Scotts Garden Products Group.

As happened when Bowers bought out Gem, the Humax products look like they will either disappear or the price will go through the roof.

I now understand that Humax is available once more, but the price has increased and our wholesaler no longer stocks this as Humax/Scotts have not responded to his enquiries.
