Our 7th August meeting is on the Evolution of Darwin Gardens given to us by Ken Cooke, a stalwart of the Darwin Gardens committee talking about our much loved local garden beside Ilkley Moor.
As usual, our meetings are held in the Ilkley Parish Church House Hall, just by the main Traffic Lights in Ilkley, with 7.45pm start, doors open by 7.30pm and admission is just £1 (non-members £2) and includes a cup of tea and biscuit.
Many of our guest speakers also bring along a selection of plants for sale, and for those who don't, we are arranging for a local nursery to bring some in instead! |

Just for a bit of fun, I've added a link to a Triva Quiz which is free to play, but you do need to register to play. The Trivia site hosts the quiz and you register with them, not us. In the time I've been registered with them, I've had no spam and the only emails I do get from them have been to alert me that a new quiz has started at the beginning of a month.
Monday to Friday it's all General Trivia with easy to difficult questions, maximum of ten per day whilst on a weekend, it's more Homes and Garden based.

The IGA Committee is pleased to advise our members that the Association has obtained membership with the Nottingham based Allotments and Gardens Council thus giving the Assocation and its members access to their facilities.
The Allotments and Gardens Council (UK) [AGC] was set up to represent allotment holders and societies in all areas. To provide help and advice on all allotment matters and whereever possible, to safeguard allotment sites by all legal means. To make available to members benefits which the AGC can obtain.
The AGC offers, among other benefits, Seed Schemes with Johnsons/Mr Fothergills at an incredible discount on retail prices, and no minimum order value.
Potato/Onion Schemes from Codnor Horticultural Supplies ltd offer extra special discounts on a full range of potatoes supplied in 2.5kg nets, also on Shallots and Onion sets. |

Have you got a garden? Are there times when you need ideas and inspiration? Ilkley Gardeners' Association is the place for you. We hold meetings almost every month where our experienced speakers provide plenty of food for thought. There are trips in summer to gardens around Yorkshire and further afield which can provide inspiration to even the most experienced gardeners. Our stores are open on many Sundays from March to November so that you can buy your basic garden requirements at discounted prices and can discuss your problems. We arrange sales of good quality plants in Spring and our Annual Plant Auction is a prime source of bargains and ideas.

Sutton Seeds are holding an Open Week at their Trial Grounds at Ipplepen, near Newton Abbot, Devon over the week of Monday 4th August through to Sunday 10th August 2008.
On display will be the new varities of colourful flowers and vegetable that they plan to introduce for the 2009 season. I believe that this is mainly for Horticultural Societies to visit.
A short talk from one of the experienced trial grounds staff over a cup of tea in the marquee is also on offer.
Interested Horicultural Groups should get in touch with Francijn.Suermondt AT suttons.co.uk giving date and time of visit as well as approximate numbers. |
