Following on from our August 2005 meeting where we were entertained and educated by Tim from DEFRA on the why's about changes to pesticides, Weedol is now removed from sale as is Pathclear.
There are however replacements available, Weedol has been replaced by Weedol 2 and Pathclear by Pathclear Ultra though at the moment, we have substitued a Doff product as that appears to be better value.
Weedol 2 is now in stock, though it is 60p a sachet dearer than the older, superseded Weedol original.

IGA Trips for 2010
Written by The Chairman
For 2010 we have a couple of early in the year trips organised in association with the excellent West Riding Travel Ltd and these are as follows.
Sunday 21st February 2010 to Hodsock Priory to see the Snowdrop collection. This trip is now fully booked, sorry.
As you may have noticed, there is a little music player on the left hand menu, (Currently on our Get In Touch Page) which is linked to our local Radio Station, Fresh Radio, based in Skipton.
This is mainly for my own reference, but the player does seem to need to autoplay this for it to work, so my apologies for this during the testing phase, I do hope it is possible to stop it autoplaying but in the meantime, please click the square box next to the right hand facing arrow on the actual player to stop it.
Spent Hops anyone?
Written by The Chairman
We have received an offer from Stewart at the Ilkley Brewery Company who is offering any interested gardener in the Ilkley area a supply of Spent Hops from the brewery for free. All that needs doing is the hops need to be collected from the brewery and they are ideal for mulching.
Please contact Stewart at the Brewery to arrange to collect them on 07721 880108 or 01943 604604. The brew takes place each Tuesday, so the hops are ready for collection on a Wednesday, but please do ring before going as they may be out on deliveries.
Humax Bought Out!
Written by The Chairman
Have just received the news, from a reliable source, that the Humax Compost company has been bought out by Scotts Garden Products Group.
As happened when Bowers bought out Gem, the Humax products look like they will either disappear or the price will go through the roof.
I now understand that Humax is available once more, but the price has increased and our wholesaler no longer stocks this as Humax/Scotts have not responded to his enquiries.
Beningbrough Hall Donation
Written by The Chairman
Following our September 2008 Meeting where we were entertained by Trevor Moody of the National Trust, in which we held a raffle in aid of the Trust, the Association has received a letter thanking us for our members generosity.
Trevor offered, and the meeting approved, the suggestion that the funds raised should be offered to Beningbrough Hall as it is relatively local to us and that the funds should be earmarked for the garden development.
The letter from Allyson Moorey, Beningbrough Hall's Property Co-Ordinator thanked us for the "very kind donation towards the work of the National Trust at Beningbrough Hall" and goes on to say "As requested, your donation will be used specifically in the garden. In 2007 we started opening the gardens to the public on a weekend during winter months and we embarked on a winter planting programme. Your monies will be put towards this project."
Thank you to everyone who helped raise these funds, either by donating raffle prizes or by buying tickets. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Trivia Quiz Added
Written by The Chairman
Just for a bit of fun, I've added a link to a Triva Quiz which is free to play, but you do need to register to play. The Trivia site hosts the quiz and you register with them, not us. In the time I've been registered with them, I've had no spam and the only emails I do get from them have been to alert me that a new quiz has started at the beginning of a month.
Monday to Friday it's all General Trivia with easy to difficult questions, maximum of ten per day whilst on a weekend, it's more Homes and Garden based.
The IGA Committee is pleased to advise our members that the Association has obtained membership with the Nottingham based Allotments and Gardens Council thus giving the Assocation and its members access to their facilities.
The Allotments and Gardens Council (UK) [AGC] was set up to represent allotment holders and societies in all areas. To provide help and advice on all allotment matters and whereever possible, to safeguard allotment sites by all legal means. To make available to members benefits which the AGC can obtain.
The AGC offers, among other benefits, Seed Schemes with Johnsons/Mr Fothergills at an incredible discount on retail prices, and no minimum order value.
Potato/Onion Schemes from Codnor Horticultural Supplies ltd offer extra special discounts on a full range of potatoes supplied in 2.5kg nets, also on Shallots and Onion sets.
